Eat, drink, laugh – see and be seen!
Friends of the Vancouver City Archives are hosting the Hugh Pickett Gala October 16, 2017, at the Sylvia Hotel – one of Hugh Pickett’s favourite Vancouver hang-outs. An evening of live music, bubbly, hors d’oeuvres and many guests from the local entertainment industry – ‘a good time to be had by all’ and ‘a good bang for your buck’- gala a la Hugh.
Proceeds from the limited $50 tickets available go directly towards the processing and digitization Hugh Pickett’s records – recently donated to the City of Vancouver Archives by Gordon Boyd, Hugh’s life partner.
Additional funds will be raised at the gala through the auctioning of a colourful collection of silent auction items from entertainment memorabilia to tours and show tickets, with some exciting items up for bid from Hugh Pickett’s very own collection as well as from the Orpheum Theatre’s basement courtesy of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. And one of the silent auction items up for bid is a private, sneak-peak of the collection with City Archivist, Heather Gordon.
An evening of entertainment emceed by Howard Blank, co-hosted by Bill Allman of Famous Artists, live music by Bryant Olender, former accompanist and band leader for Michael Bublé, and augmented by illustrated presentations of Hugh’s life and career.
The Hugh Pickett records, donated to the Vancouver Archives, are vast and colourful, filled with theatre programmes, scrapbooks, event files and photographs emanating from Vancouver impresario Hugh Pickett’s long and rich career in the entertainment industry.
The gala runs from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, on Monday, October 16 at the Sylvia Hotel – 1154 Gilford Street. Dress code – dress cool, for as Hugh would say, “Tuxedos are for waiters.”
